Marble

Marble (from the Greek marmaros, "shining stone") - a metamorphic rock resulting from recrystallization of limestone or dolomite. Thanks to high density of calcite crystals, marble is well polished. In the construction, the word 'marble' is colloquially used to refer to many other stones (limestone, dolomite or marble) that are capable of taking a high polish.
Marble is a durable, strong, weather resistant finishing material used both for internal and external work. Easily processed and polished, marble is widely used in the construction (especially for interior finish) and in sculpture (especially white, slightly translucent kinds).

By colour, marbles can by white and coloured (pink, yellow, gray, blue, green, red, black, brown and various tints of these colours). The characteristic swirls and veins of many colored marble varieties are usually due to various mineral impurities.
